Lest They Wander Off

A word from Larry…
As a caution, I want to make parents aware of a new book that was just released recently. The book is called Love Wins, A book about Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived by Rob Bell. I have just finished reading this book, and I have some deep concerns with its content.

I have also been following the blogs of numerous respected Christian leaders who are openly warning the body of Christ about the erroneous teaching in this book. The truth of God’s Word is clearly taken out of context and communicates doctrine that is not in line with the whole counsel of Scripture, nor does it accurately portray God’s character.

This book will most likely be alluring to older teens and young adults because of its emphasis on God’s love and eternal life in heaven, but there is a clear removal of the doctrine of God’s eternal punishment and His wrath. While this is not a new doctrine, the book and its author appeal to searching young people. This is a good example of why our youth must be grounded and rooted in sound doctrine and biblical truth. Scripture warns in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will assimilate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
For further information on this book and its erroneous doctrine, I have provided the following resources from the blog of C.J. Mahaney.  C.J. leads Sovereign Grace Ministries in its mission to plant and build churches. He blogs on pastoral ministries, Christian living, and much more.

I highly recommend two books, Francis Chan's "Erasing Hell," and Mark Galli's "God Wins," for further reading.
